About the Petit Montrouge Semi-private Tour
The Petit Montrouge district, south of the 14th arrondissement, is rarely mentioned in Paris guidebooks — wrongly, dare I say! Slightly removed from the city’s tourist center, this neighborhood, which was once part of the present-day suburb of Montrouge, is distinguished by its peaceful, country atmosphere.
The Petite Ceinture
Also known as the PC, the Petite Ceinture is a former circular railway inside Paris.
It was built in the mid-19th century for the workers when the city enlarged itself by incorporating all the vllages, pastures and market gardens around. With the advent of the metro and bus network, passenger transport on the Petite Ceinture was stopped in the 30s and the railway was derelict in the 70s.
It’s only been a few years that the PC is converted into a wild promenade and the 14th section, being lower than the city level, might be the greenest of all, like a small forest path in the middle of Paris!
The direction taken by the city here is at the opposite of the one chosen for the redevelopment of the #14 North Petite Ceinture.
Flowered Passages
By the time they were included in Paris, the surroundings were either industrial sites or residential districts for the working class outside Paris. A lot of artists — sculptors or painters — also found there an environment more conducive to creation. Nowadays, this is a rather bourgeois and family-focused area, concealing many residential alleyways with detached houses, witnesses to both the local working-class and artistic history.
The Petit Montrouge Semi-private Tour
On this tour, we’ll see the city from an unusual angle, in a very relaxing and nature-in-the-city atmosphere.
In addition to the walk on the former rail tracks, we’ll see an example of former train station turned into a cultural venue, get a country-feel through flowered residential passages, and end with a short stroll in a lovely English garden.
Tour Option
Participants wishing to share a drink in an unexpected international venue at the end of the tour can book the additional 1-hour drink option (NB: beverage cost not included).
