#01 The Coulée Verte

3 Hours

Description of th Paris High Line

True haven of peace, this flowery walkway located off the beaten track also known as the Coulée Verte, is mostly unknown to tourists and even to some of the local residents!

Origins of the Paris High Line

This gem takes place on a former railway path which used to connect Paris to the Eastern suburbs: among them, the royal town of Vincennes and the beautiful Marne river banks, that ended up being a destination for the Parisian bourgeoisie.

Creation of the Coulée Verte

Obsolete in the 1960s, the railway was abandoned in favor of more modern means of transport until the 1980s and the repurpose of the whole district: the train station was turned into an opera, the railway was turned into the Coulée Verte, and the former royal hunting grounds turned into a public park.

A little-known fact is that Paris High Line was an inspiration for New York City’s High Line walk open in the 2000s!
